Meet Miss Joyce

A lifelong learner, I foster comprehensive and compassionate learning environments where students feel safe to experiment, express and excel. Adept in many teaching methods, I tailor activities and experiences to suit a broad spectrum of unique needs. This holistic approach maximizes academic, social, and emotional growth.

I believe that learning should occur in emotionally safe spaces and soothing environments. This  fosters a guided yet spontaneous experience that stimulates curiosity and a desire for learning. Above all, these skills must be applicable - students employ language arts as a bridge to understand the world through both microscopic and telescopic lenses of experience.

Experience & Expertise

Miss Joyce has college degrees in Elementary Education and Social Work. She also holds diplomas in Business, Hospitality and Theological Studies. She taught preschool through second grade for several years before stepping back from formal teaching to plan and supervise the private education(s) of her three children. For the past 20 years, she has worked as a children's librarian, developing and presenting group reading/language activities across a range of ages and abilities.

A certified swim instructor with first aid and CPR certification, she enjoys providing swimming and water safety instruction at her local YMCA. Miss Joyce has a heart for guiding and encouraging swimmers of all ages. Additionally, she finds fulfillment as a volunteer ESOL tutor. Through her cumulative 40 years of teaching babies, toddlers, elementary schoolers, and - most recently - adults, Miss Joyce has acquired just as much knowledge from her students as she has imparted to them. When not teaching, she delights in music, joyful movement, friendship, and walks by the coast.
